Subject Name: Year 12 Music Studies
Prerequisites: Year 11 Music Studies
Stage 2 Music provides students with the opportunity to specialise in the areas of music they are most passionate about. Whether their strengths lie in performance, composition, songwriting, arranging, music production, analysis, or music technology, there is a pathway to suit your interests and future goals.
Students can choose from four Stage 2 subjects:
- Music Studies (20 credits)
- Music Production (20 credits)
- Music Performance – Solo (10 credits)
- Music Performance – Ensemble (10 credits)
Students may study up to 40 credits of Music in Stage 2.
12 Music Studies is designed for students who enjoy a balance of performance, composition, arranging, theory, analysis and creative thinking.
Students investigate how composers and performers use musical elements and apply this understanding to their own creative works. This subject is ideal for students considering further music study beyond school.
Assessment:
- Portfolio of Creative Works (Performance, Composition, or Arrangement) – 40%
- Musical Literacy Tasks – 30%
- Examination – 30%
