"A fast-growing independent school in Adelaide’s southwest has emerged as the top-performing affordable private school in the state. Exclusive analysis by the Sunday Mail has revealed the state’s top 20 affordable private schools – a list topped by Emmaus Christian College, thanks to its above-average literacy and numeracy test results and highly engaged students."
"These institutions deliver strong educational outcomes for ambitious South Aussie families while keeping average fees at or below $10,000 per student, according to the most recent national schools financial data from 2024."
"Emmaus Christian College, which ranked 25th among the nation’s top 100 affordable private schools, has a foundation to year 12 campus in South Plympton and another in Brooklyn Park offering early learning to year 6."
"The coeducational school with nearly 1100 students (up from 810 in 2020) topped the rankings as SA’s best-performing affordable private school. This year it is charging fees starting at $6275 for foundation."
"Emmaus executive principal Andrew Linke said its teachers had a focus on direct explicit instruction in class and offering early intervention and extension programs “that are designed to lift the performance of all students, irrespective of their circumstances."
"A rising tide lifts all ships,” Mr Linke said.
“We have outstanding teachers who go the extra mile for students, who exhibit a genuine care for the whole child.
“We have a very committed and supportive parent community that results in a genuine partnership between the home and school."
“(And) as a faith-based school, our inclusion of Christian principles throughout all we do results in a solid foundation from which outstanding performance in all areas follows”.
Year 8 Student Amelia Henderson's greatest benefit of attending Emmaus “has been my growth in confidence.” “My teachers have always encouraged me to come out of my comfort zone, which, in turn, has helped me make good friends and to truly love my school experience.” “My favourite subject is history because I enjoy learning about the past and learning about how things that have happened before have shaped where we are today”.
Year 9 student Elise Chua said studying a variety of subjects, including physical education, art and home economics, helped her to "step out of my comfort zone and try new things.” “They let me be creative and active while still learning important skills like teamwork and responsibility.” “They’re also great for building friendships and giving students the opportunity to showcase their strengths and talents.”
Year 10 student Levi Verreynne said the quality of technology facilities brought extra interest to his favourite subject – electronics and computer-aided manufacturing. “I don’t have to just learn terminology out of a book, but I can practise it on good quality equipment.”
